Senegal Lifts 2025 Oil Output Forecast for Sangomar Project

Senegal has revised upward its production forecast for the Sangomar oil field, the country’s first offshore oil development, as authorities prepare for a stronger energy-driven economic outlook in 2025.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Energies said crude output from Sangomar is now expected to surpass earlier projections, reflecting improved drilling performance and field optimisation. The field, operated by Woodside Energy, is viewed as central to Senegal’s strategy of transforming itself into a regional energy hub, Bloomberg reported.

Government officials noted that the increase in projected output could boost fiscal revenues and attract further foreign investment into Senegal’s energy sector. Reuters highlighted that Dakar is banking on oil and gas receipts to ease budgetary pressures and finance infrastructure projects.

Industry analysts also pointed out that the higher forecast positions Senegal more competitively in West Africa’s upstream oil market. Financial Times observed that the development could help offset regional production declines and strengthen Senegal’s role in shaping West African crude supply dynamics.

With first oil expected later this year, officials emphasized that transparency in revenue management and reinvestment into the local economy will be key to ensuring the sector supports long-term development.
