Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has been appointed Grand Patron of the Global Entrepreneurship Festival (GEF), strengthening the Nigerian industrialist’s role in a global platform focused on entrepreneurship, investment and economic transformation. According to Business Insider Africa, the appointment was announced on September 14 and will see Dangote support the festival’s mission of connecting entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders, policymakers and global institutions. The Global Entrepreneurship Festival describes GEF 2026 as a three day international platform bringing together startups, MSMEs, investors and corporate leaders, with more than 10,000 delegates and 200 investors expected to participate.

Dangote’s appointment comes as the Global Entrepreneurship Festival prepares its 2026 programme in Cairo, Egypt, with a focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, investment, technology and international collaboration. The festival’s organisers said his appointment strengthens its ambition to connect African entrepreneurs with capital, markets and institutional opportunities, while Dangote has pledged his support for the platform and its objectives. His selection also brings the profile of one of Africa’s largest industrial entrepreneurs into a forum designed to promote enterprise development and economic growth. The GEF’s official programme lists Dangote among its 2026 speakers alongside business leaders, investors and policymakers from Africa and beyond.
The appointment comes at a significant stage in Dangote’s own business expansion, with his group active across manufacturing, cement, food production, energy and infrastructure. Reuters reported this week that Dangote is also pursuing Africa’s largest initial public offering through the planned public offering of shares in his Lagos based oil refinery, underscoring the scale of his continuing investment in African industrial capacity. His new role at GEF therefore places his experience in building large scale African businesses alongside a platform seeking to accelerate entrepreneurship, investment and innovation across emerging markets.
