Nigerian American fashion creator and model Wisdom Kaye has received the 2026 Virgil Abloh Award, presented by LVMH at Harlem’s Fashion Row’s 19th Annual Fashion Show and Style Awards during New York Fashion Week, as reported by Yahoo News. The ceremony, held on September 8 at The Glasshouse in New York City, recognised Kaye for his influence in reshaping the relationship between digital content, personal style and the global fashion industry. According to TheGrio, Kaye has built an audience of more than nine million followers on Instagram after emerging as one of the most prominent fashion creators on social media.
Kaye’s recognition reflects the growing commercial influence of digital creators within the fashion ecosystem, where social platforms have increasingly become channels for brand storytelling, audience development and fashion discovery. The Houston raised creator first gained major attention through fashion videos produced with an iPhone from his room, developing styling concepts around unusual themes and audience requests. USA Today reported that Kaye now has nearly 15 million TikTok followers, while his recent work has included a fashion focused “High Fashion World Cup” series and an Old Navy campaign alongside Cardi B.
The award also carries particular significance because it bears the name of Virgil Abloh, the late designer and entrepreneur who transformed the boundaries between luxury fashion, streetwear, culture and digital creativity. Harlem’s Fashion Row, which has spent 19 years creating visibility and opportunities for Black designers and creatives, presented Kaye alongside other major industry figures including Erykah Badu, who received the Fashion Icon Award, Brandon Blackwood, who was named Designer of the Year, and stylist Jahleel Weaver. Fashionista reported that LVMH presented the Virgil Abloh Award to Kaye as part of the organisation’s 2026 Style Awards.
For Africa, Kaye’s achievement highlights the growing global commercial value of African talent operating at the intersection of fashion, technology and media. His journey demonstrates how digital platforms can provide creators with access to audiences and international fashion institutions without relying exclusively on traditional industry gatekeepers. Accepting the award, Kaye said he never imagined that working with an iPhone from a corner of his room would enable him to inspire people around the world, according to TheGrio. His recognition signals a broader shift in fashion, where creative influence is increasingly measured not only by traditional industry credentials but also by the ability to build global communities, generate cultural relevance and convert digital creativity into commercial opportunities.
