Niger Delta based Owigiri music ensemble D’ Because Of Love Crew, popularly known as Alfred JKing & The Because Of Love Crew, is set to headline the Bradford African Festival of Arts 2026 in the United Kingdom, taking the distinctive sounds and cultural heritage of the Izon people to an international audience. The band’s participation is being supported by the Presidential Amnesty Programme as part of efforts to promote cultural diplomacy, youth empowerment and the creative potential of the Niger Delta.
Founded in 2011 by Izon Ebi Alfred, popularly known as Alfred JKing, the seven member ensemble has built its identity around Owigiri, an indigenous Izon highlife tradition that combines traditional rhythms, live instrumentation, dance and contemporary arrangements. The group’s repertoire spans Izon, Igbo, Edo, Kwale and English, reflecting its wider commitment to preserving indigenous culture while connecting traditional music with contemporary audiences.
Alfred JKing’s musical journey was significantly influenced by the late King Dr Robert Ebizimor, one of the pioneers of Owigiri music, who mentored him from his teenage years and later entrusted him with leadership responsibilities within his band. D’ Because Of Love Crew has since performed at cultural festivals, government events and private celebrations across Nigeria, while also training young musicians and promoting the preservation of Niger Delta musical traditions.
The Bradford appearance represents a major opportunity to position Owigiri and Niger Delta culture on the global cultural stage. Alfred JKing described the invitation as an opportunity to represent the Izon Nation, Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta and Nigeria internationally, while the band expects the festival to create new avenues for cultural exchange, international collaborations and greater recognition for indigenous Nigerian music.
