Nigerian actor, comedian and filmmaker Folagade Banks has premiered A Mama Deola Wedding Story, marking a major career milestone and the debut of Kava TV’s first original production. The Lagos premiere on September 2 brought together leading names from Nollywood and the entertainment industry, ahead of the film’s exclusive streaming release on Kava on September 3, as reported by Western Post and BellaNaija.

The feature expands Banks’ popular Mama Deola character from short form comedy into a full length story centred on wedding preparations, family relationships and the chaos surrounding a major Nigerian celebration. Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami play the central couple, with Shaffy Bello, Bukky Wright, Erica Nlewedim, Toyin Abraham, Femi Adebayo and Iya Rainbow among the supporting cast. Femi Adebayo directs, while Banks serves as producer and executive producer.

The premiere itself became part of the film’s publicity strategy, with guests encouraged to embrace a wedding themed dress code that transformed the red carpet into a colourful bridal showcase. Stars including Kate Henshaw, Osas Ighodaro, Shaffy Bello, Mo Bimpe and Toyin Abraham arrived in wedding inspired looks, generating significant social media attention around the release.
For Kava, the project represents a strategic move beyond licensing existing Nollywood titles into commissioning original African content. The film reportedly features more than 600 cast members and a major wedding sequence, giving the platform a high profile launch for its original production slate. For Banks, A Mama Deola Wedding Story represents the expansion of a recognisable digital character into mainstream film and demonstrates how Nigeria’s creator economy is increasingly becoming a pipeline for original streaming content.
