France’s largest carmaker, Renault Group, has recorded its highest-ever vehicle sales in Morocco during the first half of 2026, underscoring the North African country’s growing status as Africa’s largest automotive manufacturing hub. According to Business Insider Africa, Renault sold 39,836 vehicles in Morocco between January and June, representing a 48.5% increase from the same period last year and giving the group a market share of 38.4%. The strong performance was driven by sustained demand for Renault and Dacia models in one of the company’s most important international markets.
Renault’s record sales come as Morocco continues to consolidate its position as a global automotive production centre, supported by extensive manufacturing operations in Tangier and Casablanca, competitive export infrastructure and expanding investments in electric vehicle production. The company’s manufacturing footprint in Morocco has become one of its largest worldwide, supplying vehicles to Europe, Africa and other international markets. “Morocco remains one of Renault Group’s strategic markets and production bases,” the company has previously stated regarding its operations in the country.
The milestone highlights Morocco’s increasing importance in global automotive supply chains and reinforces its attractiveness for foreign direct investment. For business leaders and investors, Renault’s sales growth signals resilient consumer demand and strengthens confidence in Morocco’s automotive ecosystem, which is benefiting from rising investment in electric vehicles, battery manufacturing and component production. The country’s emergence as Africa’s automotive leader also positions it to capture greater value from the global transition to cleaner mobility.
Looking ahead, Renault’s momentum is expected to support further expansion of Morocco’s automotive industry as manufacturers scale production for export markets and accelerate investment in electric mobility. With new battery manufacturing projects and continued industrial development underway, Morocco is strengthening its position as a strategic gateway linking African manufacturing with European and global automotive markets.
