Marriott Expands Egypt Footprint as Tourism Boom Fuels Hospitality Investment

Marriott International is strengthening its presence in Egypt as the world’s largest hotel company moves to capitalise on rising tourism demand in one of Africa’s biggest travel markets. According to Business Insider Africa, Egypt is among the company’s fastest growing markets on the continent, with plans to expand through new hotel openings and conversion projects as part of its strategy to add more than 50 properties across Africa by the end of 2027. The expansion aligns with Egypt’s broader drive to increase hotel capacity and attract more international visitors amid a sustained recovery in tourism.

More than half of Marriott’s planned additions in Egypt are expected to come through conversions and adaptive reuse projects, including the anticipated debut of Aloft Hotels in Africa with the opening of Aloft Ghazala Bay in 2027. Egypt’s hospitality pipeline is also among the strongest on the continent, with Greater Cairo leading Africa in planned hotel developments, supported by major international operators including Marriott, Hilton, Accor and IHG. “We are witnessing a transformation of Africa’s tourism sector driven by visionary government agendas, substantial infrastructure development, enhanced regional and international connectivity and diversified travel experiences,” said Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott International.

The expansion underscores Egypt’s growing appeal as a strategic hospitality investment destination, supported by government efforts to increase tourist arrivals, expand hotel capacity and streamline visa procedures. For investors and businesses, Marriott’s continued commitment signals confidence in Egypt’s long term tourism potential while creating opportunities across real estate, construction, hospitality services and employment. The country’s ambition to welcome significantly more visitors over the coming years is expected to sustain demand for international hotel brands and related infrastructure investments.

Looking ahead, Marriott’s expansion is set to reinforce Egypt’s position as one of Africa’s leading tourism and hospitality markets. As new properties come online and the government rolls out measures to improve connectivity and visitor access, the sector is expected to play an increasingly important role in generating foreign exchange earnings, attracting investment and supporting broader economic growth.
