Cabo Verde World Cup Hero Vozinha Secures Move to Chilean Giants Colo Colo

Cabo Verde international goalkeeper Vozinha has secured an 18 month contract with Chilean football powerhouse Colo Colo after emerging as one of the standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to the Associated Press and Fox Sports, the 40 year old goalkeeper, who was without a club during the tournament, earned widespread recognition for his exceptional displays as Cabo Verde defied expectations with a memorable World Cup campaign, attracting interest from clubs following the competition.

Vozinha’s performances included a series of crucial saves against some of the world’s strongest teams, helping Cabo Verde capture global attention before their tournament ended with a narrow extra time defeat to Argentina in the Round of 32. “It is a dream to join a club with the history and ambition of Colo Colo,” Vozinha said after agreeing to the move, as reported by the Associated Press. He is expected to arrive in Santiago shortly to complete medical examinations before being officially unveiled by the Chilean champions.

The transfer highlights the growing international recognition of African football talent beyond Europe’s traditional markets. For clubs and investors, Vozinha’s move demonstrates how major international tournaments can create commercial opportunities for African players while enhancing the visibility of smaller footballing nations such as Cabo Verde. Colo Colo also gains an experienced goalkeeper whose leadership and World Cup pedigree could strengthen the club’s domestic and continental ambitions.

Looking ahead, Vozinha’s arrival in Chile could pave the way for more African players to explore opportunities in South American football, strengthening sporting links between the two regions. His transition from World Cup breakout star to one of Chile’s biggest clubs will be closely watched as Colo Colo prepares for the remainder of its domestic season and continental competitions.
