Sony’s Indian Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, Adds Google Gemini as AI Guide

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has partnered with Google Gemini to introduce artificial intelligence into the latest season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the Indian adaptation of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Hosted by legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, the new season will feature Gemini as an AI-powered guide, enhancing the viewing experience across Sony Entertainment Television and the Sony LIV streaming platform, as reported by Variety and Economic Times. The collaboration marks one of the most significant integrations of generative AI into a mainstream television game show in India.

Under the partnership, Gemini will power interactive features designed to help audiences engage more deeply with the programme beyond traditional television viewing. While the AI assistant will not participate in gameplay or influence contestants’ answers, it will provide viewers with contextual information, educational insights, and interactive experiences through Sony’s digital platforms. Sony Pictures Networks India said the initiative is intended to combine entertainment with accessible artificial intelligence, creating a richer and more immersive experience for millions of KBC fans.

Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan since its debut in 2000, with the exception of one season, Kaun Banega Crorepati remains one of India’s most successful television franchises and the country’s official version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Over the past two decades, the programme has become a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for transforming ordinary contestants into millionaires while promoting education, knowledge, and aspiration across generations.

The collaboration reflects a broader trend of media companies incorporating artificial intelligence into mainstream entertainment to deepen audience engagement and personalise digital experiences. For Google, the partnership expands Gemini’s presence in one of the world’s largest television markets, while for Sony Pictures Networks India, it positions Kaun Banega Crorepati at the forefront of AI-driven entertainment innovation without changing the show’s iconic quiz format.
