Alibaba has introduced a new artificial intelligence chip designed specifically for agent-driven systems, marking a significant step in its strategy to lead the next phase of AI innovation, according to Reuters.
The chip, part of Alibaba’s XuanTie processor family, is built on advanced 5-nanometre architecture and optimised to power AI agents capable of autonomously planning, executing, and managing complex tasks across digital environments.
This development aligns with Alibaba’s broader push into agentic AI, where intelligent systems can independently handle workflows such as research, enterprise operations, and decision-making with minimal human intervention.
CNBC Africa says the launch underscores intensifying competition in China’s AI ecosystem, as major technology firms accelerate investments in both custom chips and AI platforms to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and meet rising demand for high-performance computing.
