Central African Republic Seeks Russian Support to Strengthen Energy Sector

The government of the Central African Republic has requested assistance from Russia to help address persistent energy shortages, following discussions between President Faustin‑Archange Touadéra and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, as reported by Reuters.

During the meeting at the Kremlin, Touadéra highlighted the country’s pressing electricity and fuel supply challenges and expressed interest in deeper cooperation with Russia to develop the nation’s energy infrastructure. He noted that Russia’s experience and technical capacity could support efforts to improve power generation and expand energy access across the country.

Putin said both countries have opportunities to strengthen collaboration in several sectors, including energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, emphasizing the potential for broader economic cooperation between Moscow and Bangui.

The move reflects Russia’s expanding engagement in parts of Africa, particularly in the Central African Republic, where Moscow has previously provided support ranging from security assistance to shipments of fuel and grain, developments that have been highlighted in reporting by TimesLive.
