10th African Public Service Day Signals Push for Public Sector Reform Across Africa

The 10th African Public Service Day (APSD) officially opened in Addis Ababa, emphasizing renewed efforts by African governments to strengthen and modernize public service delivery.

Hosted by the African Union Commission in partnership with the Government of Ethiopia, this year’s event runs from June 21 to 23 under the theme:

“Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps.”

Focus on Institutional Efficiency and Innovation

APSD 2025 provides a continental platform for African countries to exchange best practices, launch public service innovations, and align reform strategies with the AU’s Agenda 2063 and the 2025 priority on reparative justice and inclusive governance.

This year’s edition is being held alongside the Africa Regional Forum on Governance Innovation, which highlights scalable approaches to public sector efficiency, citizen engagement, and digital transformation.

Business and Investment Opportunities

The convergence of governance and technology has opened new pathways for public-private partnerships in Africa. Governments are actively exploring solutions in e-governance, digital identity systems, cloud infrastructure, and integrated service platforms.

One of the leading case studies featured at the event is Ethiopia’s Mesob One-Stop Center, which provides 124 essential public services through a centralized and digitalized system. Such models are increasingly attracting the attention of technology providers and investors in civic infrastructure.

Regional Impact and Future Outlook

The outcomes of APSD 2025 are expected to influence national-level public administration strategies in countries such as Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Rwanda, where parallel commemorations and policy dialogues are scheduled.

As African governments move to streamline service delivery, reduce bureaucracy, and close equity gaps, the continent’s public sector is emerging as a dynamic space for innovation and long-term investment.
