Supergirl Takes Flight With $7.8 Million in Box Office Previews

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios have kicked off the theatrical run of Supergirl with a solid $7.8 million in domestic preview earnings, giving the latest installment in the rebooted DC Universe a promising launch ahead of its opening weekend. According to Deadline, the preview total includes Wednesday fan screenings and Thursday evening showings, positioning the film for a domestic debut in the $40 million range. The early performance also surpassed the preview openings of Black Adam ($7.6 million) and The Marvels ($6.6 million), although it trailed The Flash, which opened with $9.7 million in previews.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in the second feature film of DC Studios’ new cinematic universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The Hollywood Reporter indicates the film earned approximately $13 million globally on its first day, with international markets contributing $5.2 million, reflecting strong interest from audiences as the franchise continues its global rollout.

While critical reception has been mixed, audience response has been more encouraging. Early viewer scores on Rotten Tomatoes have outperformed several recent superhero releases, suggesting positive word-of-mouth could help sustain the film’s box office momentum. Analysts cited by TheWrap note that Supergirl was never expected to match the blockbuster debut of last year’s Superman, but its opening demonstrates continued audience appetite for well-known DC characters.

For Warner Bros. and DC Studios, Supergirl represents another important step in rebuilding the studio’s interconnected superhero universe. Industry observers say the film’s performance over the coming weeks will be closely watched as a measure of the franchise’s long-term commercial strength. If audience support remains steady, Supergirl could provide another confidence boost for DC’s evolving cinematic strategy and contribute to a competitive summer box office season.
