Nyika Plateau National Park: Malawi’s Misty Highland Escape

Perched high in northern Malawi, Nyika Plateau National Park is a landscape unlike any other in southern Africa. Rolling grasslands stretch beneath wide skies, often cloaked in mist, giving the park an almost dreamlike atmosphere. At over 2,000 meters above sea level, Nyika offers cool temperatures, scenic vistas, and a surprising blend of wildlife and wildflowers.

The park is home to zebra, eland, roan antelope, and leopards, along with hundreds of bird species that make it a paradise for birdwatchers. During the rainy season, Nyika bursts into color as orchids and wildflowers blanket the hills, drawing nature lovers and photographers from around the world.

Remote and peaceful, Nyika Plateau offers more than wildlife, it offers solitude. With its open trails, historic buildings, and sweeping views, the park invites visitors to slow down, explore on foot or by bike, and experience the quiet beauty of Malawi’s highland wilderness.
