Nigeria and the United Kingdom have signed a new migration and security agreement aimed at enhancing border control, tackling organised immigration crime, and supporting bilateral trade and investment flows, according to BusinessDay.
The pact, reached under the Migration, Justice and Home Affairs Dialogue, outlines cooperation on visa systems, law enforcement coordination, and the return of individuals without legal residency, while also promoting legal migration pathways that support economic activity between both countries.
Vanguard News says the agreement will strengthen joint efforts to combat human trafficking, document fraud, and transnational crime, with both countries committing to improved intelligence sharing and coordinated border operations. The framework also includes measures to modernise migration processes and reduce visa abuse.
Beyond security, the deal is designed to support growing economic ties, ensuring that migration policies align with expanding trade relations, financial services, and investment flows between Nigeria and the UK. Analysts say the agreement reflects a dual strategy of tightening border security while enabling business mobility and cross-border commerce.
