Eswatini based billionaire Nathan “Natie” Kirsh has crossed the $20 billion net worth threshold, becoming the third African linked billionaire to reach the milestone, according to Forbes and Business Insider Africa reports on August 14. Kirsh’s fortune has surged following the proposed $29.1 billion acquisition of his Jetro Restaurant Depot business by Sysco, which has transformed his position among the world’s wealthiest people.
The 94 year old businessman started 2026 with an estimated fortune of about $9.1 billion, but the proposed Sysco transaction significantly increased the value of his holdings. Kirsh owns about 70% of Jetro, the US food service wholesaler that operates Restaurant Depot and Jetro Cash & Carry. Forbes’ real time profile had valued his fortune at $18.3 billion as of July 26, underscoring how rapidly his wealth has risen this year.
Kirsh’s rise highlights how major corporate transactions can rapidly reshape Africa’s billionaire rankings and underscores the international scale of African linked private capital. The development is particularly notable because his wealth is largely tied to businesses outside Africa, while his residence and citizenship remain connected to Eswatini. His fortune now places him alongside Aliko Dangote and Johann Rupert among the African billionaires who have reached or approached the $20 billion level, although Forbes’ annual Africa list excludes Kirsh from its core ranking because of his primary business operations outside the continent.
The final value of Kirsh’s fortune will depend on the completion of the Sysco transaction, regulatory approvals and the value of the cash and shares he ultimately receives. If completed as planned, the deal would convert a substantial portion of his privately held wealth into cash and publicly traded assets, potentially cementing his position among the world’s richest business owners while further reshaping Africa’s billionaire landscape.
