Moniepoint Acquires Orda to Tap Africa’s $50 Billion Restaurant Economy

Nigeria’s leading fintech Moniepoint has acquired restaurant management platform Orda, in a strategic move to capture a share of Africa’s rapidly growing $50 billion restaurant economy, as reported by BusinessDay.

The deal expands Moniepoint’s footprint beyond payments into business management infrastructure for food and hospitality operators, enabling it to offer restaurants integrated solutions spanning payments, inventory, bookkeeping, and operations. Orda’s cloud-based platform already serves thousands of small and medium-sized restaurants across Africa, many of which are transitioning from manual systems to digital tools.

Moniepoint, which processes hundreds of billions of dollars in transactions annually and serves millions of businesses, is positioning itself as a full-stack financial and operational platform for Africa’s informal and SME-driven economy, Techpoint Africa noted.

Analysts say the acquisition reflects a broader trend of fintechs moving beyond payments into sector-specific ecosystems, with food services emerging as a high-growth vertical. By integrating Orda’s technology, Moniepoint is expected to deepen merchant engagement, unlock new revenue streams, and play a central role in digitising Africa’s fragmented restaurant industry.
