International Conference on African Studies, Museums and Artifacts (ICASMA) 2025

The International Conference on African Studies, Museums and Artifacts (ICASMA) will be held on 15 December 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together scholars, curators, cultural historians and policy leaders to examine the preservation, interpretation and future of Africa’s material and intellectual heritage. The conference will serve as a platform for dialogue on how museums and cultural institutions can play a stronger role in education, identity formation and economic development.

ICASMA 2025 will explore contemporary approaches to African studies, with discussions centered on heritage conservation, museum innovation and the ethical stewardship of artifacts. Participants are expected to engage in conversations around restitution, digitization and the role of cultural spaces in telling Africa’s stories from authentic and inclusive perspectives.

Nairobi provides a fitting host city for the conference. As a regional cultural and intellectual hub, the city is home to some of East Africa’s most prominent museums and research institutions. Kenya’s ongoing efforts to protect and promote its cultural heritage align closely with the objectives of ICASMA 2025, making the location both relevant and symbolic.

The conference aims to foster collaboration between academic institutions, museums and policymakers while encouraging new research and creative approaches to heritage management. For professionals and scholars across the continent and beyond, ICASMA 2025 offers an opportunity to engage with Africa’s past in ways that inform its future and strengthen the global appreciation of its cultural legacy.
