FG Commissions ₦40 Billion CCTV Control Centre on Third Mainland Bridge to Boost Safety

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially inaugurated a ₦40 billion CCTV control centre on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, reinforcing surveillance and safety on one of the nation’s busiest transport corridors. The commissioning, held on January 11, 2026, was led by the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, who described the facility as a critical step in enhancing public safety and infrastructure monitoring, according to businessday

Constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the centre features real‑time monitoring of both the bridge surface and underwater structures, as well as traffic management capabilities. The facility includes a surveillance boat, two Hilux vans for police operations, 240 solar panels, multiple power inverters, air-conditioning systems, a 300 KVA transformer, and backup generators, making it one of the most advanced bridge monitoring setups in Nigeria, according to Tribune Online.

Minister Umahi expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the funding and emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining the country’s infrastructure. He also urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations to fully benefit from the enhanced monitoring and safety systems. The project is regarded as the first CCTV control centre of its kind in Nigeria, capable of improving both security oversight and traffic management.
