Canal+ expects to generate about €400 million ($479 million) in annual synergies by 2030 following its $3 billion acquisition of South Africa’s MultiChoice, the French pay-TV group said. The forecast was disclosed as part of its post-deal outlook and reported by Reuters.
The company said synergy gains will build gradually, with around €150 million expected by 2026 and more than €300 million by 2028, compared with a combined cost base of roughly €8 billion in 2025. Early savings are already being realized through procurement efficiencies and lower financing costs on MultiChoice’s debt.
Canal+ Chief Financial Officer Amandine Ferré said efficiencies will come from consolidated sourcing for set-top boxes, satellite capacity and cloud services, as well as debt refinancing. She added that losses at MultiChoice’s streaming platform Showmax are “not acceptable,” signalling tighter cost discipline across the business, according to Business Insider Africa.
Analysts said the acquisition positions Canal+ as a stronger global entertainment player across Africa and Europe, enhancing its ability to compete with international streaming platforms. The synergy targets underscore the group’s strategy to scale operations and improve profitability as it expands its footprint in high-growth media markets.
