Barrick Mining Resumes Operational Control of Mali Mine

Barrick Mining has officially resumed operational control of its mining complex in Mali, marking a key step in restoring stability at one of the country’s most important gold assets, according to an internal company memo seen by Reuters.

The resumption follows months of negotiations with Mali’s military-led government over taxes, regulatory compliance and the application of the country’s revised mining code. Barrick had previously scaled back control at the Loulo-Gounkoto complex amid disputes that disrupted operations and exports, as reported by Reuters.

Industry analysts say the return of full operational control is likely to improve production visibility and cash flows for Barrick, while also boosting government revenues from one of Mali’s largest foreign investments. Mali is among Africa’s top gold producers, and mining remains a cornerstone of its economy, figures from the World Gold Council show.
