The Choir That Stole Christmas: LOUD Urban Choir’s Afro-Holiday Revolution

This December, Lagos is set for a festive takeover as LOUD Urban Choir, Nigeria and Africa’s trailblazing Afro-urban ensemble, prepares to turn Christmas celebrations upside down.

Created under the visionary leadership of Ann Obaseki and the team at Talentville Africa, LOUD was designed to elevate African vocalists, providing a professional platform beyond traditional church choirs and background roles. From their very first performance at Basketmouth’s Lord of the Ribs in 2019, the choir demonstrated that African ensemble music could be both dynamic and mainstream, capturing the hearts of over 5,000 audience members and instantly setting a new standard for live performance.

This year, LOUD deepens its creative vision with a holiday project built around the belief that Christmas can be reimagined through African rhythm. The choir is presenting a festive narrative described as the moment LOUD brought Christmas home, blending African drums with global musical influences to create a sound that feels both rooted and universally resonant. The official December Holiday Showcase will take place on December 22nd, 2025, at Eko Hotel, Lagos, attracting fans, industry leaders, and cultural enthusiasts to witness this bold new expression of seasonal music.

The choir’s creative director explains that LOUD was born to show that African voices, when celebrated collectively, can transform not just music but culture itself, and that this Christmas, the ensemble is taking that vision to the next level, blending tradition and Afrobeats to create a festive sound that is unmistakably African and unforgettable.

The project incorporates the launch of a reimagined Christmas EP, live performances, digital content integration, and collaborations with creatives across the continent. LOUD’s performances combine powerful harmonies, choreographed movement, and Afro-urban charisma, shifting expectations of what holiday music can be and reinforcing the choir’s role as a creative disruptor.

LOUD’s influence goes beyond entertainment. The choir is developing a new performance economy for African vocalists, powering emerging talent while inspiring similar ensembles. “Every song we perform is more than music; it is a statement about culture, innovation, and pride,” says LOUD’s music director. “LOUD is showing that African voices can dominate stages, define traditions, and captivate audiences without compromising authenticity.”

Each performance tells a story, merging festive nostalgia with modern rhythm, expressive movement, and engaging narratives designed to connect with diverse audiences. The vocal director continues to guide the team in crafting experiences that are immersive, playful, and aligned with the choir’s mission to redefine vocal ensemble performance for the next generation.

This December, LOUD aims to deliver an experience that goes far beyond music. Spectators should expect interactive engagement, festive reinterpretations, and bold storytelling that celebrate the joy and heritage of African expression. Every moment is being curated as a highlight of seasonal entertainment, bridging live and digital experiences seamlessly.

As the season unfolds, LOUD Urban Choir is positioned to transform festive entertainment into a celebration of Afro-creativity and shared spirit. Their presence is not only memorable but culturally significant, capturing the essence of African joy at one of the most celebrated times of the year.

LOUD is not simply performing; they are redefining Christmas through sound, movement, and storytelling, proving that African choral performance can be both iconic and globally admired.
