Namibia President Appoints New Mines, Energy, and Industry Minister

Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has appointed a new minister to oversee the Ministry of Mines, Energy, and Industrial Development, according to Reuters. The reshuffle is part of broader efforts to streamline resource management and boost industrial growth in the country.

The new minister, whose appointment was formally gazetted on Thursday, is tasked with guiding policy reforms, improving oversight of the mining and energy sectors, and promoting sustainable industrial development, the statement added. Observers note that Namibia’s mining sector, which contributes significantly to GDP and foreign exchange earnings, will be a key focus area under the new leadership.

The administration emphasized that the appointment aims to strengthen governance, encourage foreign investment, and align the country’s industrial strategy with regional and global energy transitions. The reshuffle comes amid rising global demand for Namibia’s mineral exports, including uranium, diamonds, and rare earths.
