Egypt’s Suez Canal Revenues Rise 14% as Red Sea Tensions Ease

Egypt’s Suez Canal revenues rose by 14% in October compared to the previous month, signaling a rebound in global maritime traffic as tensions in the Red Sea began to ease, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) announced on Monday.

The Authority reported that monthly revenues climbed to about $637 million, up from $559 million in September, reflecting renewed confidence among shipping operators following months of disruptions linked to Houthi attacks in the region.

SCA Chairman Osama Rabie said the improvement was a positive sign for global trade stability, noting that vessel transits through the canal increased by nearly 11% in the same period. “The recovery in passage volumes shows the resilience of the Suez Canal as the fastest and safest route between East and West,” Rabie said in a statement cited by Ahram Online.

The Suez Canal, one of Egypt’s most vital sources of foreign currency, had seen revenues decline earlier in 2025 as geopolitical risks forced some vessels to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope. Analysts quoted by Bloomberg said the rebound underscores how quickly the canal can recover when maritime conditions stabilize.
