Terah Melford: Building Homes, Empowering Dreams

In a country where millions still aspire to own a home, Terah Melford is transforming that aspiration into reality, laying foundations not just for housing, but for dignity, stability, and economic growth.

As the Founder and CEO of Hazibian International Limited, a core entity within the Haziba Group of Companies, Melford is reshaping Nigeria’s real estate landscape with a rare blend of business acumen, empathy, and social purpose. Her career has become a compelling model of how entrepreneurial drive can meet community need at scale.

From Adversity to Architecture

Melford’s interest in real estate stems from personal experience with housing insecurity. This background instilled a deep understanding of the importance of stable housing as a cornerstone for opportunity and wellbeing.

After completing a degree in International Studies and Diplomacy at Benson Idahosa University, she turned her focus to Nigeria’s pressing housing deficit. Rather than simply studying the issue, she chose to address it through enterprise, launching Hazibian International as a vehicle for inclusive housing development.

Today, the company manages five residential estates across the country, with a flagship affordable housing initiative underway in Calabar. The project is part of a broader mission to expand access to quality housing for underserved populations.

Real Estate with a Social Vision

What sets Melford apart in the competitive world of property development is her focus on community-centered planning. Her developments are intentionally designed as ecosystems, integrating housing with access to small business opportunities, local employment, and critical social infrastructure such as schools and clinics.

Each project incorporates local stakeholders, supports entrepreneurship, and emphasizes long-term value creation over short-term gains. This people-first approach to real estate has made Hazibian a standout brand in Nigeria’s housing sector.

Leadership Rooted in Service

Melford’s leadership journey began long before her business ventures. As an alumna of LEAP Africa’s Leadership, Ethics and Civics (LEC) program from 2010 to 2013, she led community service projects and earned a scholarship based on her commitment to social impact.

That early exposure to civic leadership laid the foundation for her holistic approach to business and mentorship. Today, she remains actively engaged in youth development initiatives and national leadership forums, championing ethical entrepreneurship and inclusive development.

Expanding Impact Through Creative Enterprise

Beyond real estate, Melford also leads House of Haziba, a lifestyle and fashion brand specializing in Ankara-themed clothing, accessories, and beauty services. This venture celebrates African creativity and empowers women through economic and cultural expression.

House of Haziba is more than a fashion brand, it serves as a platform for self-reliance and pride in cultural heritage. It reflects Melford’s belief in the power of creativity as a tool for both personal and communal transformation.

Charting the Future

Melford represents a new kind of African leader, one who bridges business, community, and culture. Her impact is visible not only in the homes she builds but also in the lives she uplifts through mentorship, advocacy, and enterprise.

As Nigeria confronts urban expansion and infrastructure challenges, leaders like Terah Melford are critical to shaping sustainable solutions. Her work offers a powerful example of how vision, resilience, and responsibility can intersect to create lasting change.

In the story of Nigeria’s next chapter in housing and development, Melford is not just a participant, she is a pathfinder, building legacies one community at a time.
