Dangote Refinery IPO Draws Investors From 120 Countries, Securing Participation Across All 54 African Nations

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has concluded its landmark initial public offering, attracting investor applications from 120 countries across six continents, including all 54 African nations. The offering, which closed on 27 October 2026, marks a significant milestone in efforts to broaden African ownership of strategic industrial assets and expand participation in the continent’s capital markets. According to Channels Television, the company described the response as evidence of growing investor interest in African enterprise, with participation spanning domestic and international markets. The IPO opened on 14 September, offering 4.1 billion ordinary shares at ₦525 each, representing a proposed capital raise of approximately ₦2.15 trillion. The Securities and Exchange Commission approved an extension of the original closing date to allow more investors to participate.

Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, said the offering was designed not only to raise capital but also to give ordinary Africans an opportunity to own a stake in one of the continent’s most significant industrial businesses. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, David Bird, said applications from 120 countries reflected international confidence in the refinery’s scale, operational capabilities and long-term prospects. Group Chief Financial Officer Murat Erden also highlighted the role of banks, stockbrokers, fintech platforms and other financial institutions in widening access to the offer across national borders. The transaction’s digital distribution channels and relatively low entry threshold, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares costing ₦5,250, were intended to make participation accessible to a broader investor base.

The IPO comes as the refinery pursues an ambitious expansion programme and seeks to strengthen its role in Africa’s energy supply chain. According to the company, the business recorded US$22.5 billion in revenue and US$5.52 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation during the first nine months of 2026. Bloomberg reporting published by Moneyweb before the offer closed indicated that domestic and retail investor commitments had already reached an estimated US$1.5 billion to US$1.6 billion, meeting the original fundraising target, while international demand could exceed the available shares. The final allocation and proceeds will determine the transaction’s ultimate financial outcome. Beyond the amount raised, the broad geographical reach of the offer highlights the potential for coordinated financial institutions and digital investment platforms to connect African investors with major businesses across the continent, although sustained progress will depend on transparent governance, investor confidence and the refinery’s ability to deliver long-term value.
