Meet Sarah Adesemoye The Self Taught Fashion Entrepreneur Building SHINNE Into a Global Luxury Brand

Sarah Adesemoye is building SHINNE around a simple but powerful belief: every woman deserves to feel distinctive, confident and seen. Founded in 2019, the premium womenswear brand has grown from the vision of a self taught designer into a fashion and retail business serving customers across Nigeria, Ghana, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and other international markets. For Sarah Adesemoye, however, SHINNE is about more than creating beautiful clothes. It is an evolving platform combining fashion, technology, commerce and the economic empowerment of women.

Sarah Adesemoye’s entry into fashion did not follow the conventional route. She taught herself how to design and construct garments, developing her skills through hands on experimentation before turning that ability into a structured business. From its earliest collections, SHINNE has focused on ready to wear, bespoke pieces, accessories and curated jewellery designed for women who value individuality and refined presentation. The brand has subsequently exhibited at platforms including Africa Fashion Week Nigeria and the Sankalp West Africa Summit, while its collections have received attention from Nigerian media including The Guardian, Vanguard and BusinessDay. Its growing customer base and reported 65 percent repeat customer rate point to a business increasingly being built around long term customer relationships rather than one off visibility.

The growth of SHINNE has also been deliberate on the business and technology side. The company operates an ecommerce platform that enables customers across different markets to shop directly, supported by logistics partnerships for cross border fulfilment. Sarah Adesemoye is now focused on strengthening the infrastructure required for international expansion, including export systems, premium stockist relationships and distribution partnerships in major diaspora markets. The ambition extends beyond selling Nigerian fashion abroad. She is building the type of retail architecture that could eventually help other African creative businesses navigate the complexities of taking their products into international markets.

Her entrepreneurial journey has received institutional recognition. In 2023, Sarah Adesemoye was named YALI RLC West Africa’s Star of Business and Entrepreneurship, while her work has also earned recognition through the Nigerian Youth Fashion and Empowerment Week and the Jaotem Foundation. She is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, where she is pursuing a Master of Leadership and Management. Her academic and entrepreneurial development reflects an intentional effort to combine creative ability with the strategic knowledge required to build globally competitive enterprises.

Beyond SHINNE, Sarah Adesemoye is also the co-founder of Growth X Limited, extending her work into business strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation. Through her broader entrepreneurial activities, she has impacted more than 1,500 people through training programmes, accelerators, university engagements and mentorship, while SHINNE’s own operations have created opportunities for more than 45 women through employment, skills development and mentorship. This combination of commerce and empowerment has become an important part of her approach to entrepreneurship, with business growth positioned alongside the development of people and capabilities.

What makes Sarah Adesemoye’s journey particularly compelling is the ambition behind SHINNE’s next chapter. She is not simply seeking to place another Nigerian fashion label on international shelves. She is building a fashion house with its own digital commerce infrastructure, export capability and growing international customer base, while creating a community around women who lead, build and influence. As SHINNE expands towards premium stockists, international markets and curated experiences, Adesemoye is demonstrating how a self taught creative can evolve into a strategic business builder, turning personal craftsmanship into a brand designed for global relevance.
