Nike Taps Former Foot Locker Executive Kristin Bauer to Lead Converse Operations

Nike has hired former Foot Locker executive Kristin Bauer to lead operations at Converse, bringing retail and footwear expertise to the heritage sneaker brand as Nike works to revive growth across its portfolio. The appointment was reported by Bloomberg, with Bauer set to take responsibility for Converse’s operations.

The move comes at a challenging time for the wider sneaker industry. Foot Locker, which was acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods for about $2.4 billion, has recently struggled with weak demand, excess inventory and underperforming footwear launches. Dick’s last week cut its annual outlook, highlighting the pressure facing traditional sneaker brands and retailers.

For Nike, the appointment adds retail experience as Converse works to strengthen its position in a highly competitive footwear market. Nike CEO Elliott Hill has previously said Converse remains an important part of the company’s long term portfolio, despite recent speculation about the brand’s future.

Bauer’s appointment therefore comes as Nike seeks to sharpen its product, retail and consumer strategy across its brands. Bringing in an executive with experience at one of the world’s largest footwear retailers could help Converse better respond to changing consumer preferences and rebuild momentum in the sneaker market.
