Shettima Turns 60 With Call for Quiet Celebration and Prayers for Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima will turn 60 on September 2, 2026, but has chosen to mark the milestone without public celebrations, congratulatory adverts or elaborate gatherings, as reported by ChannelsTv and TVC News. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima asked friends, associates and well wishers to refrain from placing birthday messages across newspapers, television, radio and digital platforms.

The Vice President said the decision reflects his desire to keep public attention focused on national development rather than personal celebration. He urged those wishing to honour him to instead dedicate their goodwill to prayers for Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Shettima specifically called for prayers for the success of the government’s economic reforms, lasting solutions to Nigeria’s security challenges, greater national unity and the peace and prosperity of Nigerians. He described the occasion as an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and renewed commitment to public service.

The low key approach marks a departure from the elaborate public celebrations often associated with milestone birthdays of senior political figures. For Shettima, the 60th birthday is being framed less as a personal occasion and more as a moment to reflect on service, national responsibility and Nigeria’s future.
