Uber is expanding its safety tools for teen riders by giving parents and guardians greater visibility over their children’s journeys, including real time trip tracking and ride updates, as reported by Bloomberg. The feature is available through Uber’s Teen Accounts, designed for riders aged 13 to 17 whose accounts are linked to a parent or guardian’s Family Profile.
Under the system, guardians are notified whenever a teen requests a ride and can follow the journey from pickup to drop off through live trip tracking. They can also contact the driver directly during the trip, while Uber’s RideCheck technology can flag unusual route deviations, unexpected stops or early trip endings.
The service also includes additional safeguards including PIN verification, destination locking and access to Uber’s emergency and safety reporting tools. Teen riders can additionally opt into encrypted audio recording, which records the trip on the rider’s device and can be submitted to Uber if a safety incident is reported.
The move reflects Uber’s effort to balance teen independence with parental oversight, while opening the platform to a younger customer segment. For families, the combination of live monitoring, experienced drivers and automated safety alerts could make ride hailing a more practical option for school, sports, social activities and other journeys when parents cannot provide transportation themselves.
