WAPTV is strengthening its family entertainment offering with the acquisition of broadcast rights to the popular Indian drama series Rajjo, making it the first Nigerian television channel to air the series, according to Vanguard and Punch. The move is part of the station’s strategy to attract and retain audiences with premium, wholesome programming across television and mobile platforms.
Rajjo follows an aspiring athlete from Uttarakhand whose ambitions are challenged by her mother, Manorama, whose troubled past shapes her opposition to Rajjo’s dreams. The drama combines family relationships, ambition, romance and personal resilience, themes WAPTV says align with its focus on family friendly entertainment.
According to WAPTV Director Wale Adenuga Jnr, the station pursued the broadcast rights for several years before successfully securing the deal. The series will be fully dubbed and subtitled in English, making it accessible to a broader Nigerian audience.
Rajjo is scheduled to premiere on WAPTV on September 7, 2026, giving the channel another international property as competition for television audiences intensifies. The acquisition also reflects WAPTV’s broader strategy of combining Nigerian content with carefully selected international programming to maintain its appeal to millions of family viewers.
