ByteDance Attracts More Than $30 Billion in Orders for Landmark Bank Loan

ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok, has attracted more than $30 billion in investor orders for a proposed jumbo bank loan, underscoring strong lender appetite for the technology giant as it ramps up spending on artificial intelligence, according to Bloomberg.

The company is seeking a loan of around $20 billion, which would be its largest offshore borrowing to date. The facility is expected to have a three year tenor with an option to extend to five years. ByteDance last tapped international lenders in 2024, raising about $10.8 billion through a syndicate of more than 20 banks.

The strong demand comes as ByteDance accelerates investment in AI infrastructure, including data centres, computing capacity and chip related technology. The company has been considering capital expenditure of up to $70 billion in 2026, with spending potentially rising to $100 billion next year if market conditions remain favourable.

For ByteDance, the financing provides substantial capital without requiring an immediate public listing or equity dilution. For global banks, the oversubscription signals confidence in the financial strength and growth prospects of one of China’s most valuable private technology companies, while highlighting the enormous amount of capital now being mobilised for the global AI infrastructure race.
