Burna Boy Breaks Spotify Record for Highest Monthly Listeners by an African Artist

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has set a new milestone on Spotify, becoming the African artist with the highest monthly listeners in the platform’s history. According to New Telegraph and DailyPost, Burna Boy reached a record 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous African record of 46.58 million held by South African singer Tyla. The achievement further cements Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s most influential global music stars.

The record-breaking surge has been driven largely by the worldwide success of “Dai Dai,” Burna Boy’s collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira, which serves as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The song has dominated streaming platforms and climbed major music charts across Europe and beyond following its high-profile performance during the tournament’s opening ceremony. The renewed momentum has also boosted Burna Boy’s catalogue, including global hits such as “Last Last,” which remains one of the most-streamed African songs on Spotify.

The latest milestone adds to a string of record-breaking achievements for the Nigerian artist, who recently became the first African musician to top Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart with “Dai Dai.” Industry analysts say Burna Boy’s sustained international success reflects the growing influence of Afrobeats on the global music landscape, where African artists continue to attract record audiences through major collaborations, world tours, and streaming platforms.

For African music, Burna Boy’s latest Spotify record highlights the genre’s expanding global reach and commercial appeal. Pulse believes the achievement reinforces Africa’s growing presence in the international music industry while setting a new benchmark for artists from the continent as streaming continues to reshape the global entertainment landscape.
