Meet Deola Smart The Entrepreneur Building Businesses That Shape Lives

Barr. Deola Smart Awujoola is a Nigerian entrepreneur, philanthropist, lawyer, and business executive whose growing portfolio of ventures spans hospitality, technology, real estate, lifestyle services, and social impact. As the founder and co-founder of multiple successful enterprises, she has distinguished herself as a visionary leader committed to building businesses that not only create economic value but also address real societal needs. Her work across diverse sectors has positioned her among a new generation of Nigerian entrepreneurs driving innovation, opportunity, and community development.

Born into a family deeply committed to public service and philanthropy, Deola is the daughter of Smart Adeyemi, the distinguished Nigerian senator and public servant. Inspired by the charitable work she witnessed growing up, she began participating in humanitarian initiatives as a teenager, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to giving back. Her educational journey took her from Lead British International School in Abuja to Middlesex University in London, where she earned degrees in Law and Employment Law before returning to Nigeria to attend the Nigerian Law School and qualify as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Although trained as a lawyer, Deola’s entrepreneurial instincts soon led her into business. In 2019, she launched Tuvia Technology, a technology company focused on expanding access to communication and digital solutions. The company later introduced its own line of mobile devices, reflecting her belief that technology can serve as a tool for inclusion and empowerment. She subsequently expanded into real estate through Tuvia Properties and Management, further diversifying her business interests.

That same year, alongside her husband, renowned luxury entrepreneur Olusola Awujoola, she co-founded No. 1 Hotels, a hospitality brand that has rapidly grown into one of Abuja’s recognized luxury accommodation providers. Under her leadership as Managing Director and CEO, the company expanded its footprint and announced ambitious growth plans beyond the Federal Capital Territory. The business also introduced lifestyle concepts including The Box Underground and Area 21, helping create unique hospitality and entertainment experiences for a growing clientele.

Her entrepreneurial vision continues to evolve. In 2026, she expanded Ellisi, a premium childcare and domestic support company previously operating in the United Kingdom, into Nigeria. Through Ellisi, she aims to professionalize childcare and household support services while helping modern families access trusted and structured domestic solutions. The initiative reflects her commitment to improving quality of life and supporting family wellbeing through innovative service delivery.

Beyond business, philanthropy remains central to Deola’s mission. Through the Deola Smart Foundation, formally established in 2017, she has supported widows, orphans, vulnerable families, and students through scholarships, business grants, food support, and empowerment programs. In 2025, the foundation expanded its educational outreach by providing full scholarships to more than 100 pupils in underserved communities within the Federal Capital Territory, reinforcing its commitment to educational access and social mobility.

As an entrepreneur, wife, mother, and philanthropist, Deola Smart Awujoola represents a generation of African business leaders who view success through the lens of both enterprise and impact. Her ability to build across industries while remaining committed to social transformation reflects a leadership philosophy grounded in purpose, innovation, and service.

Today, through No. 1 Hotels, The Box Underground, Area 21, Tuvia Technologies, Tuvia Properties, Ellisi, and the Deola Smart Foundation, she continues to create opportunities, empower communities, and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Her journey demonstrates how vision, determination, and compassion can come together to build businesses that leave a lasting legacy.
