Priesst Building Momentum Through Consistency and Afro Fusion Storytelling in Nigeria’s New Wave Music Scene

Priesst, born Caleb Odugbose, is a Nigerian Afro fusion artist steadily emerging within the country’s evolving contemporary music landscape. His sound blends Afrobeats, rap, and melodic storytelling, reflecting a style shaped by lived experience, digital culture, and a growing creative identity within Nigeria’s independent music space.

Raised in Ogun State, Nigeria, Priesst grew up in a religious household where his earliest engagement with music came through the church. He learned instruments such as drums and keyboards before gradually transitioning into songwriting and recording. His early career phase began around 2014 to 2015, when he started releasing freestyles and covers online, slowly building the foundation for a professional music journey.

Over time, Priesst transitioned from experimental releases into structured music projects, gaining attention through early records such as Miwa and Upcoming (Check on Me). His visibility increased further through collaborations and consistent digital releases, including his widely circulated single “Puff Puff Pass” featuring Falz, which helped introduce him to a broader mainstream audience and reinforced his presence within Nigeria’s new school music wave.

His recent catalog reflects a more defined artistic direction and growing output. According to verified streaming and release records, Priesst has continued his momentum with 2026 releases including “Akonuche (Oversize)”, “Omo”, and the collaborative version “Akonuche (Remix)” featuring Victony and Shoday. These records highlight his shift toward more refined Afro fusion production, combining street rooted storytelling with polished contemporary sound design.

A major component of his recent body of work is the project KURIMA TOO (EP), released in 2026, which features tracks such as “Tobi” and other introspective records that explore themes of identity, growth, and emotional experience. The EP positions him as an artist expanding beyond singles into more structured storytelling formats.

Across his recent releases, Priesst demonstrates a clear focus on consistency and artistic development rather than short term virality. His music reflects a balance between relatable street narratives and evolving Afrobeat experimentation, placing him within a growing group of independent Nigerian artists shaping alternative pathways into mainstream recognition.

Looking ahead, Priesst continues to build his catalogue with a focus on consistency, collaboration, and sound refinement. His trajectory reflects the broader shift within Nigeria’s music industry, where digital platforms and independent rollout strategies are increasingly defining how new artists grow, connect, and sustain relevance.
