The United States is exploring plans to position Morocco as a regional drone hub, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen security cooperation and intelligence capabilities across Africa, Business Insider Africa reports.
According to emerging reports, Washington is considering establishing a drone training and operations center in Morocco, which could serve as a base for training African drone operators and coordinating surveillance activities across the region.
The move reflects a wider U.S. effort to rebuild and expand its security footprint in Africa, particularly after setbacks in parts of the Sahel where military partnerships have weakened. Recent deployments of U.S. drones in countries like Nigeria highlight a renewed focus on intelligence gathering and counterterrorism support.
Analysts say the potential hub could reshape regional security architecture, enabling faster intelligence sharing, improved surveillance coverage, and deeper U.S.-Africa defence collaboration, while also reinforcing Morocco’s status as a strategic gateway between Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
