Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council has approved the rollout of a GIS-enabled alphanumeric digital postcode system designed to modernize the country’s national addressing framework and improve location accuracy nationwide, as reported by Channels Television.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said the initiative was approved under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and data-driven governance.
Implementation of the system will be carried out in partnership with the Nigerian Postal Service, led by Postmaster General Tola Odeyemi, introducing a geospatially intelligent addressing structure to improve mail delivery and logistics efficiency across the country.
BusinessDay says the digital postcode framework will also enhance e-commerce operations, support faster emergency response services, and improve national planning by providing more accurate geographic data as Nigeria continues to expand its digital economy.
