Chery Automobile will launch its new electric vehicle sub-brand iCAUR in South Africa in May 2026, marking the company’s latest expansion into the African market, according to MarketScreener.
The debut model is expected to be the iCAUR V23, an electric SUV that will be offered in both two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. Industry reports indicate the vehicle will feature modern battery-electric technology, fast-charging capability and a distinctive retro-inspired design, positioning it within South Africa’s growing but still nascent EV segment.
Reuters noted that the rollout forms part of Chery’s broader international growth strategy as Chinese automakers intensify their push into emerging markets. South Africa, the continent’s most developed automotive market, has seen rising interest in electric vehicles despite relatively low overall penetration compared to global leaders.
Pricing and full specifications are expected to be announced closer to the official launch. The introduction of iCAUR underscores increasing competition in South Africa’s EV space as global and Chinese manufacturers seek to capture early market share in Africa’s evolving mobility landscape.
