WADA Sees Kenya’s Progress, Places ADAK on Watch List After Non-Compliance

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has acknowledged Kenya’s progress in strengthening its anti-doping framework but has placed the country’s Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) on its global watch list following a recent period of non-compliance, as reported by Reuters.

In a statement released on Thursday, WADA said Kenya had taken significant steps toward aligning its anti-doping regulations with global standards but noted that full compliance is yet to be achieved. The agency cited ongoing administrative and technical gaps in ADAK’s operations, including the need for improved testing coordination and data management systems.

“Kenya has shown commitment to addressing previous shortcomings, and WADA recognizes the efforts being made,” the organization stated. “However, continued monitoring is necessary to ensure sustained progress and adherence to the World Anti-Doping Code.”

As reported by Reuters and BBC Africa, Kenya has faced heightened scrutiny in recent years due to an increase in doping cases among elite athletes, prompting calls for deeper reforms and stronger institutional oversight. The ADAK said it remains confident that Kenya will achieve full reinstatement once all corrective measures are completed.
