UN Appoints Former Haiti PM Garry Conille to Senior Role in Kenya

The United Nations has appointed former Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille as its Resident Coordinator in Kenya, placing him at the helm of the organization’s development and humanitarian operations in the country, according to Reuters.

The appointment, confirmed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, takes effect immediately, with Conille serving as the UN’s top representative in Kenya and leading coordination with government, development partners, and civil society.

Conille brings over two decades of experience in international development and humanitarian affairs, having held multiple senior roles within the UN system, including previous assignments as Resident Coordinator in countries such as Jamaica and Burundi.

His appointment comes against the backdrop of ongoing UN engagement between Kenya and Haiti, particularly following Kenya’s leadership in a UN-backed security mission aimed at addressing escalating gang violence in Haiti.

Analysts say Conille’s extensive diplomatic and development experience positions him to strengthen UN operations and partnerships in Kenya, while advancing key priorities such as sustainable development, humanitarian coordination, and regional cooperation.
