Steve Babaeko Redefining African Advertising and Creative Leadership

Steve Babaeko has emerged as one of Africa’s most influential figures in advertising, creative communications, and brand storytelling. As the founder and CEO of X3M Ideas, he has transformed Nigeria’s creative industry by building a world‑class agency that showcases African talent on the global stage. His work reflects bold innovation, strategic leadership, and a deep belief in the power of creativity to shape culture and business outcomes.

Born on June 1, 1971, in Kaduna, Nigeria, Steve studied Theatre Arts at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He began his advertising career in 1995 during his national youth service at NTA Kano before joining MC&A Saatchi & Saatchi as a junior copywriter. Over the following years, he honed his craft at Prima Garnet Ogilvy and as Creative Director at 141 Worldwide, developing a keen understanding of brand communication across diverse sectors.

In August 2012, Steve took a decisive step by founding X3M Ideas, a full-service advertising and marketing agency. What started as a small team soon grew into one of Africa’s most dynamic creative networks, with operations spanning Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, Congo, Dubai, and South Africa. Under his leadership, X3M Ideas has delivered innovative campaigns for top-tier brands while nurturing a generation of African creatives, helping the continent earn recognition on the global advertising stage.

Steve Babaeko’s influence extends beyond his agency. He served as President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria from 2020 to 2024, driving professional development and fostering inclusivity within the sector. In 2025, he was elected Vice President and Area Director for Africa on the Global Board of the International Advertising Association, advocating for African creative voices internationally.

His work has garnered significant recognition. X3M Ideas became the first West African agency to win a Cannes Lions Award, a landmark achievement that elevated Nigeria’s creative industry. In 2019, Steve was named by Adweek as one of the 13 Global Creative Leaders, the only Nigerian on the list. He has served on juries for international award festivals including the Loeries, D&AD Awards, and the New York Advertising Festival, and he frequently shares insights at global industry events.
