Qatari Emir Arrives in DR Congo Following Rwanda Visit

Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday, following a visit to Rwanda aimed at strengthening regional economic and diplomatic ties. According to Al Jazeera, the visits are part of Qatar’s broader strategy to deepen partnerships across Central and East Africa.

During his stay in Rwanda, the Emir met President Paul Kagame to discuss investments in infrastructure, energy, and technology. In DRC, sources told Reuters that meetings with President Félix Tshisekedi will focus on energy cooperation, including potential investment in hydroelectric and mining projects.

Qatar’s growing engagement in the region highlights its interest in supporting African development while securing strategic economic partnerships, analysts say. The trip is also viewed as an effort to bolster diplomatic influence in Central and East Africa amid shifting geopolitical alignments.
