MTN South Africa CEO Molapisi to Transition into Group Technology Role

MTN Group has announced a leadership reshuffle that will see Charles Molapisi, the current Chief Executive Officer of MTN South Africa, step down and return to his former role as Group Chief Technology and Information Officer. According to Reuters, the change will take effect on November 1, 2025, as part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen its technology-driven growth agenda.

Ferdi Moolman, MTN’s Group Chief Risk Officer, has been appointed as the incoming CEO and Executive Director of MTN South Africa. According to Reuters, his appointment is expected to bring renewed focus on governance and operational efficiency in the company’s largest market, where competition and regulatory pressures continue to shape performance.

The reshuffle also extends to the group’s financial leadership. Chief Financial Officer Tsholofelo Molefe will take on added responsibilities overseeing mergers and acquisitions, while Kholekile Ndamase, formerly Chief M&A and Business Development Officer, will step down from the executive committee but continue to report to Molefe.

MTN’s decision to redeploy Molapisi into its technology division underscores the growing importance of network innovation, digital services, and infrastructure expansion across its African and Middle Eastern markets. According to Reuters, the company’s Ambition 2025 strategy places technology at the core of its growth plan, with leadership alignment seen as critical to execution.

Analysts note that the appointments reflect MTN’s efforts to balance stability in its South African operations with an accelerated push into digital transformation. The leadership changes come at a time when the company is seeking to consolidate market share, attract investment, and strengthen its resilience in a competitive telecommunications landscape.
