BW Energy has announced promising preliminary findings from its Kharas appraisal well in Namibia’s offshore Kudu license, marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing exploration campaign in southern Africa. The well, which forms part of BW Energy’s strategy to develop Namibia’s offshore gas potential, has encountered high-quality reservoir sands with indications of hydrocarbon presence.
According to Reuters, drilling operations began earlier this month and were conducted safely and on schedule. The company stated that initial logging and sampling results have confirmed the presence of gas-bearing intervals, which will undergo further testing to assess commercial viability.
BW Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Carl Krogh Arnet, said the results “represent an important milestone in understanding the Kudu gas system and expanding our footprint in Namibia’s offshore energy sector.” He added that additional evaluation will determine the potential for future production and infrastructure development in the region.
As reported by Upstream Online and Bloomberg Energy, Namibia has become one of Africa’s most promising frontiers for oil and gas exploration, attracting international interest following major discoveries by TotalEnergies and Shell. BW Energy’s latest results reinforce the country’s emerging reputation as a new energy hub on the continent.
