Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace, is set to begin direct international flights to London from the newly commissioned Gateway International Airport this summer, according to its Chief Executive Officer Allen Onyema.
Onyema disclosed the plan after inspecting the airport alongside Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, noting that the airline will operate routes connecting the facility to both London Gatwick and Heathrow airports, as reported by The Guardian Nigeria and Channels Television.
He described the airport as “one of the best-equipped in Sub-Saharan Africa,” highlighting its 4-kilometre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380, a development expected to boost international connectivity.
The project follows the recent commissioning of the airport by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with Onyema confirming that regulatory approvals have been secured to commence operations.
