Guinea’s Bauxite Exports Jump 25% to 183 Million Tons in 2025 on Chinese Demand

Guinea’s bauxite exports increased by 25 percent to about 183 million metric tons in 2025, driven largely by rising demand from China, strengthening the country’s position as the world’s leading supplier of the aluminium ore. The export figures were reported by Reuters, citing data from Guinea’s mining authorities, and further confirmed by Stabroek News in its review of global commodity trade flows.

China accounted for approximately 74 percent of Guinea’s total bauxite shipments during the year, with Chinese customs data showing the country’s overall bauxite imports rose by more than 26 percent in 2025. Guinea supplied more than 150 million tons of bauxite to China alone, meeting over 80 percent of the raw material required for its aluminium smelting capacity, according to Reuters, which referenced industry and customs data.

“This export performance confirms Guinea’s strategic role in the global aluminium supply chain,” a senior official at Guinea’s Ministry of Mines said, as quoted by Reuters. The official added, “Strong demand from China has continued to support our mining sector despite volatility in global commodity markets.”

Mining economists say the export surge is beginning to translate into fiscal gains for the country. “We are seeing production growth increasingly reflected in state revenues,” said Bernabe Sanchez, principal mineral economist at consultancy CPCS, as reported by Stabroek News, citing projections from Guinea’s budget ministry on rising mineral-related income.
