Godwin Iheuwa Honoured with Crest Africa Tech for Good Innovator of the Year Award

Godwin Iheuwa has been recognized by Crest Africa for his growing impact at the intersection of technology, education, and community development, receiving the Tech for Good Innovator of the Year Award as part of the 2025 honours. The recognition, announced on August 15, 2025, celebrates his practical approach to building digital solutions that improve access, efficiency, and inclusion across Africa and the United Kingdom.

A software engineer and digital development specialist, Godwin’s journey into technology began in Nigeria, where he studied Computer Science at the University of Port Harcourt before completing a Master’s degree in Computer Science with Distinction at the University of Bedfordshire. His early career took shape through roles at Computer Warehouse Group and later within the technology operations of MTN Nigeria and MTN Benin Republic. These experiences exposed him to enterprise systems and large scale telecommunications infrastructure, shaping a strong foundation in reliability, scalability, and production grade engineering.

As his career progressed, Godwin became increasingly focused on how technology could be applied to address gaps in education and digital access. This led to his leadership of Project D 100, a digital initiative providing free websites and essential digital tools to schools and small and medium sized enterprises across West Africa. Through the project, organisations that previously lacked an online presence are now better positioned to share information, deliver services, and engage their communities.

In the education sector, Godwin is also the creator of ExamFlux, an AI powered grading platform designed to support theory based examinations. Using WAEC style assessments as a case study, the platform explores how artificial intelligence can improve consistency and efficiency in exam marking while maintaining responsible and real world application. ExamFlux reflects his commitment to applying emerging technologies thoughtfully rather than abstractly.

Beyond product development, Godwin has contributed to open source projects within the generative AI ecosystem, focusing on improvements to usability and system behaviour that benefit the wider developer community. In the United Kingdom, his work with the Scottish Tech Army has supported charities and community organisations with practical digital solutions, including the implementation of accessible online systems for Edinburgh Young Carers and website delivery and improvement projects for organisations such as the Central Scotland Regional Equality Council and Spider Arts.

Alongside technical delivery, Godwin remains committed to mentorship and capacity building. Through his role with the Africa Learning Community in partnership with Microsoft 4Afrika, he supported early career technologists developing cloud and digital skills, reinforcing his broader commitment to sustainable ecosystem growth.

Through a career defined by steady progression, practical innovation, and community impact, Godwin Iheuwa embodies the values behind the Crest Africa Tech for Good Innovator of the Year Award. His work demonstrates how software engineering and DevOps practices, when guided by purpose, can create lasting value in education, accessibility, and community development.
