Dangote Signs $350 Million Deal With Indian Firm EIL to Expand Lagos Refinery

Nigeria’s Dangote Group has inked a $350 million contract with India’s state-owned Engineers India Ltd (EIL) to drive the next phase of expansion at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Lagos, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a regional hub for refined fuels and petrochemicals, according to Business Insider Africa.

EIL will serve as Project Management Consultant (PMC), providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services to increase the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to around 1.4 million barrels per day. The expansion will enable production of Euro VI-grade fuels and scale up polypropylene output, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products, as reported by EnergyWorthOnline.

The collaboration builds on a longstanding partnership between Dangote and EIL, which previously acted as a consultant during the refinery’s initial construction. Upon completion, the facility is expected to become one of the world’s largest single-location refinery complexes, enhancing Nigeria’s energy infrastructure and supporting regional energy security, according to multiple industry sources.

Analysts say the deal reflects strong confidence in Nigeria’s downstream sector and underscores growing Indo-African industrial cooperation. The expanded refinery is projected to meet domestic fuel demand and position Nigeria as a major exporter of refined products across Africa, as highlighted by Economic Times.
