MTN One TV has launched its first original series, 100 Ways to Stay Single in Lagos, with a special screening in Cape Town during MIP Africa 2026. The premiere marks a new phase in the telecommunications group’s expansion into original African entertainment content, as it seeks to connect locally produced stories with audiences across the continent, as reported by Nollywire. Created by Nigerian filmmaker Mimi Bartels, the comedy series brings together creative talent from Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana, reflecting the growing role of cross-border collaboration in Africa’s film and television industry.
Set against the social and romantic landscape of Lagos, the series follows Kaven, a young woman who moves from Abuja to stay with her childhood friend JT, and their recently separated housemate, Ralu. Through their different experiences, the production explores modern relationships, friendship, dating and the complications of navigating love in a fast-paced city. The premiere, listed by FAME Week Africa as a world screening of the first episode on October 29, gave industry delegates an early look at the production and an opportunity to engage with the creative team. South African actor Bohang Moeko is among the cast, adding to the production’s pan-African character.
The launch also reflects MTN’s wider ambition to build its digital services business under its Ambition 2030 strategy. MTN One TV, its mobile-first, multi-screen entertainment platform, is positioning itself as a distribution channel for African productions while creating commercial opportunities for filmmakers, producers and other creative businesses. Following the launch, 100 Ways to Stay Single in Lagos became available to viewers in South Africa, Ghana and Zambia, with expansion into other MTN markets planned. MTN also used its participation as a Platinum Sponsor of MIP Africa to host pitching sessions for producers seeking opportunities to present projects to its content team, signalling an interest in developing relationships with the wider African creative industry.
