Loud Urban Choir has turned harmony into a cultural statement. Founded in Lagos in 2019, the contemporary vocal collective has grown into a 15 singer ensemble led by a Music Director, creating a distinctive sound that places choral arrangements alongside Afrobeats, R&B, gospel and contemporary pop. What began as a gathering of accomplished vocalists has evolved into a movement built around the idea that choir music can occupy the centre of contemporary African popular culture.

Their breakthrough came through inventive reinterpretations of songs already embedded in popular culture. Their rendition of Ayra Starr’s “Bloody Samaritan” became a defining moment, eventually leading to their inclusion alongside Ayra Starr and Kelly Rowland on the official remix. The collaboration placed the Nigerian ensemble on an international recording and helped establish Loud Urban Choir as one of the country’s most recognisable contemporary vocal groups. Their performance was followed by further collaborations and appearances alongside artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Phyno, Teni, Johnny Drille and Timi Dakolo.

The group has continued to expand its catalogue beyond viral covers. Projects including Living Loud Cover EP, Afroloud, Rise, Somewhere and other contemporary releases demonstrate an evolving creative identity that combines familiar Nigerian sounds with the scale and precision of ensemble performance. In 2025, Loud Urban Choir marked its sixth anniversary with a sold out Living Loud concert at Terra Kulture in Lagos, performing for more than 800 guests. In 2026, the group continued that momentum with new releases and further live performances.

What further distinguishes Loud Urban Choir is its ability to move comfortably between music, fashion, entertainment and commercial culture. The collective has become a sought after live act for major events and brand experiences, while its fashion week appearances demonstrate how its performance style can become part of a wider visual and cultural spectacle. At Lagos Fashion Week, the group performed as part of Heineken’s City of Cities showcase, bringing its choral interpretation of Lagos to a runway experience that brought together fashion, music and movement.

Loud Urban Choir is ultimately building more than a catalogue of performances. It is creating a recognisable African creative identity around collective musicianship, contemporary styling and live entertainment. Its ambition to become a globally recognised lifestyle, fashion and music brand reflects how far the group has moved from the conventional understanding of a choir. By making harmony feel contemporary, energetic and culturally relevant, Loud Urban Choir is helping open a new space for African choral music on the global stage.
